Renzo started attending junior nursery class at the PACE Academy this year. During the first semester, he absolutely refuses to be left in the class. My wife and I agreed that she would accompany our son inside the classroom until he feels comfortable with his teachers and classmates.
Unfortunately, this went on until the end of the first semester.
At the start of the second semester, we have decided that Renzo has had more than enough time to familiarize himself with other people and that my wife should stop accompanying him inside the classroom.
As can be expected, he cried and thrashes around the first few times we brought him to his classroom and leaving him. Outside the school, we worry what might happen to our child if his teacher or caregiver was not able to contain him. We worried that he might bang his head… he might fall down… you know what I mean.
After barely one week, Renzo started showing signs of improvement. He does not cry so much now when we bring him to his classroom. Early this week, the teachers reported that Renzo finally seems to be at ease with them. According to the teachers, Renzo started telling stories after stories the whole time he was in the class. Among the stories he told the teachers was how bad of a driver my wife was.
In his words, he said, “Si mommy hindi marunong mag drive ng car, kaya ang dami daming banga ng car.” This is absolutely not true because he has never seen my wife drive a car before.
As funny as it was, we still talked to Renzo, explaining to him that when he tell stories, he should not tell stories that are not true.
The next day, after we picked up our children from school, I asked Renzo if he told stories to his teacher again. He said he did not talk at all. I asked why not and this is what he said, “eh kasi baka masabi ko yung hindi totoo eh!”
