One of the reasons why I asked a family friend in the USA to buy me a Toshiba laptop (A505-S6971) at Costco is that this unit is qualified for upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. The unit was sent to me in the Philippines, and the first thing I did was once I received it was to register to receive the Windows 7 upgrade kit.
Having previously sent an email to Toshiba, I already knew that the upgrade kit could only be shipped to USA and Canada address. The registration process was simple and by forwarding the email originally sent by Costco to our family friend as proof of purchase, the Windows 7 upgrade kit was soon on its way to our family friend.
Once the upgrade kit was received, our family friend sent the kit to me using the postal service. It was suppose to arrive between 2 to 4 weeks. After over a month of not receiving the Windows 7 upgrade kit, I had this feeling that the package might have been stolen.
What should I do to get another copy (replacement) of the Windows 7 upgrade kit?
I contacted Toshiba and after several email exchanges, it became clear that they will not send another kit to me. At this point, I felt cheated. If I had the upgrade kit in my possession, and I did not make backup copies and somehow the disc was damaged, then it’s my fault. In this case, I never received my kit. As to the possibility of making backup copies, it should not be a problem, unless there is some kind of copy protection.
Nearly two months later, last week, I received a notice from the Philippine Postal Office notifying me to pick up a package. I tried not to expect anything but somehow, I knew this is what I have been waiting for.
Previously, weeks before, I had several packages picked up from the post office thinking one of it is the Windows 7 upgrade kit. It wasn’t there.
Anyway, our driver went to the post office to pick up this latest package and it turned out to be the Windows 7 upgrade kit.
After a few days of backing up my computer, I finally did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium on this Toshiba A505 laptop. Everything seems to be running smoothly and what can I say about Windows 7? It rocks!
